RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is a process by which adults are received into the Catholic Church after a period of time attending classes and preparing to receive the sacraments.
RCIA is for anyone who is interested in learning about the Catholic Church. People who enter RCIA may have been baptized in the Catholic Church but never received any formal religious education as children or received any other sacraments. Perhaps there is someone who has received all of their sacraments but have been away from practicing their Catholic faith. RCIA is also for anyone who was baptized in another Christian denomination but now would like to become Catholic.
Some of the people who enter RCIA have never practiced in any faith tradition and are searching for God and a spiritual life. This is a way to see if the Catholic Church would fill this need. Many others come to RCIA because they are married to a Catholic or are planning to marry a Catholic. There are many and varied reasons why someone would choose to enter into the RCIA process.
If you or anyone you know is interested in the Catholic Church please consider coming to the first RCIA session at Assumption starting on Thursday evening, Sept. 27 at 7:30 PM in Roncalli House, the Religious Education Center at Assumption.
If you have any questions or would like to know more about the RCIA process, please call the Parish Office at (203) 227-5161.
ALL ARE WELCOME!
