Wedding Planning at Church of the Assumption
The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.
To prepare for this lifelong commitment, Diocesan policy requires that all engaged couples attend a marriage preparation (Pre-Cana) retreat. The Diocese of Bridgeport offers regularly scheduled one-day classes at the Catholic Center (238 Jewett Avenue, Bridgeport). Visit the Pre-Cana Marriage Prep website for more information.
In addition, Engaged Encounter Weekends also are available, visit the Engaged Encounter website.
Note: A certificate stating that you have completed some type of Pre-Cana instruction is required prior to the wedding.
Additionally, couples must contact the Parish Office at least six months before the proposed wedding date. To begin your wedding planning, please call Michelle Hankey in the Parish Office for further information (203) 227- 5161.
