Social Concerns Ministry

We are an active ministry formed to respond to the physical and spiritual needs of the Assumption parish family, and to those in need in neighboring communities.

Pope Francis Food Closet

For over 40 years, the Food Closet Ministry has an ongoing collection of nonperishable food items that is distributed to families in need and supports local organizations.  All items are donated by Assumption Parishioners.

Thomas Merton Family Center, Bridgeport, CT

A safe, welcoming and hopeful environment for the poor and homeless to come for breakfast, lunch or day shelter. We provide bag lunches the first Friday of the month.

The Soup Lady

Sponsored by the late Linda Cervero, or “the Soup Lady,” this organization provides homemade soup to Vietnam Veterans, homeless people and children on Sundays under the I-95 John Street overpass.
