Dear Families,
Welcome to a new year of Faith Formation/Religious Education.
Guided by the Holy Spirit, Assumption is committed to serving others by providing opportunities for learning and growing in the Catholic faith. We believe that education in the faith begins in the home and we recognize that parents and guardians are the most important witnesses of their children!
Through our Faith Formation program, our dedicated catechists seek to work alongside families in bringing the light of Christ to every child in our parish community and pray that the spiritual life of our Assumption Catholic faith community grow even stronger.
Our goal is to provide a faith formation program that consists of sacramental, scriptural catechesis, and service that offer the opportunity for children to open themselves to a deeper understanding of God’s presence in their lives.
Celebrating the Eucharist each week with our parish community is central to the life of a Catholic family. Experiencing liturgy is one of the major components in a person's faith formation. Our children learn about the Eucharist in their textbooks. Our children experience Eucharist with their family each week in the parish community. Children who do not participate in the Eucharist each week are really "missing out" on a major part of our Catholic Heritage. Our children learn that Jesus gave us His body and blood at the Last Supper. He wants us to bring our children to the table of the Lord and celebrate as a parish community as we receive the Eucharist.
We celebrate a Family Mass each week at 9:00 A.M., with children participating as readers, gift bearers, ushers, and altar servers. All children are expected to attend Mass every week. It is the responsibility of the parents to insure the child attends Mass regularly. Religious Education classes are never meant to take the place of Mass.
We will begin with the parents taking their children to the weekly Sunday 9:00am Mass, followed by a time for hospitality in the parish hall, and then to class.
The children will go directly to either Roncelli House or the school where faith formation sessions will take place from 10:10 to 11:00 for the Sunday students.
For those who choose our Tuesday program it will meet at 4:30 and end at 5:30pm.
Faith is not something we can learn in a class that meets one hour a week; it is something we live and grow into with our families. Nothing we do at faith formation would make any sense to their children if the faith were not a part of their home life. Practicing the faith at home includes praying together, reading the Bible together, talking about faith, and, most importantly, attending Sunday Mass.
We offer age-appropriate faith formation to help enrich the spiritual lives of the children. Our formation is continuous and builds one year upon the next.
New students must submit a baptismal certificate at the time of registration.
We offer
Sundays
for grades 1 through 6,
Confirmation preparation sessions for grade 7 and beyond if needed
Tuesdays, for grades 3 through - 5.
Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation takes place in Grade 2.
First Eucharist takes place in Grade 3.
Students enrolled in a Catholic school must attend the immediate preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation here at Assumption Church.
Our Middle School offers community building and hands on service opportunities through our Youth Ministry. This program encourages servant leadership.
This important step in the faith journey of our children is a special time for families to deepen their connection to the sacraments.
