Pastor’s Message: February 11, 2024

Dear Parishioners,

As difficult as it may be to believe it, Lent begins this week. Ash Wednesday is February 14. We invite you to prepare your hearts for Easter through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. In this e-newsletter there many opportunities offered for your spiritual enrichment. Join us!

In today’s Gospel, the man with leprosy approached Jesus and asked for healing. In doing so, the leper violated the religious customs of the day by approaching a person who was clean.

Jesus as compassionate and willing to transcend the Jewish law by touching and healing the leper, demonstrates that love and mercy surpass the law The leper is isolated from the community In contrast, Jesus’ healing restores the leper back into the community, showing the importance of inclusion and community healing.

As followers of Jesus, we can learn from his acts of healing towards those who were marginalized and ostracized in society. Jesus showed compassion and love towards these individuals, actively working to include and restore them within the community. We can copy Jesus’ example by extending kindness and care towards those who may feel excluded or isolated, and by working towards creating a more inclusive and welcoming community for all.

God Bless as we begin our Lenten Journey,

Pray for peace.
