Pastor’s Message: October 23, 2022

Dear Parish Family,

The parable this weekend reminds us that when we pray, we must remember our need for God in our lives. If we are too full of ourselves, there is too little room for God’s grace to work in us. Let us not be like the Pharisee who had no need for God and be more like the tax collector who knows he needs God and prays, God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

Please keep all students in your prayers. They will take part in a retreat as they continue their preparation for Confirmation in the spring. They will be gathering next Sunday here at Assumption with St. Francis students joining.

God Bless,
Fr. Cyrus

Dear Parish Family,

Jesus came to the world to save us from our sins so we could stay with Him forever.

Zacchaeus was a man ready to be saved and to serve. He opened his doors for Christ and was willing to listen.  Zacchaeus was moved by Jesus’ love to do the things he promised. For him, those were necessary steps to proving that he had fully submitted the rest of his life to God. His advice. Do Whatever it Takes to Change Your Life for the Better.

Please pray for our Confirmation students who will be on retreat this Sunday afternoon as they continue their preparation for Confirmation in the spring.

God Bless,
Fr. Cyrus

Dear Parish Family,

In the Gospel this weekend we are reminded of the importance of being thankful and grateful to God. When we take God’s gifts for granted and forget to say, “Thank you” we offend God.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica, instructing them to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

If someone inspires you thank them. If someone helped you solve a problem, thank them. Follow the example of the one leper that came back and thanked Jesus. It doesn’t take much to say thank you, but it does make a big difference.   God’s will is that we learn to be grateful and thankful in every situation.

God Bless
Fr. Cyrus

Dear Parish Family,

I am on pilgrimage walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, or the Way of St. James of Compostela.

The Way is a spiritual pilgrimage with many routes. Pilgrims walk hundreds of miles to the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. It is here, in this cathedral, that the remains of St James are said to buried.  Please keep me in your prayers as I will pray for you.

Also please pray for our Catechists who will be commissioned this weekend at the 9:00am Mass. They along with parents, hand on the faith by being witnesses to the Gospel.

God Bless,

Fr. Cyrus
